Firmware Upgrade

Performing a firmware upgrade on-site is possible through the OSS Companion app if your device is not accessible through the cloud, upgrading through the cloud is unsuccessful, or you have periodic on-site inspection routines.

If your device is in a remote location, please configure your OSS devices to connect to Azure, so you can perform firmware upgrades via the Azure platform.

On-Site Firmware Upgrade

Tibbo has developed and actively maintains an open-source firmware for OSS.

The latest firmware files for updates and upgrades are available for download in the OSS GitHub repository, along with release notes and additional resources.

On-site firmware upgrades through the OSS Companion app use BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy).

1. Go to the "Release_Files" folder of OSS' GitHub repository.

2. Find the latest version (at the bottom of the page).

3. Open the folder of the latest version.

4. Download "OSS_Azure_FW_X-XX-XX.tcu" to your mobile device, or if using a PC, transfer it to your mobile device.

The "X"s in the file name above represent the version number of the .TCU file on GitHub.

Note: "TCU" stands for "Tibbo Composite Uncompressed," it is a type of file that Tibbo provides for updating over BLE.

5. Open the OSS Companion App.

6. Select "Update Firmware" from the main menu.

7. Tap "Select a File."

8. Locate the file you previously downloaded and select it.

9. Tap "Continue."

10. Bring the front edge of your mobile device close to the NFC symbol on the OSS unit.

If you are having issues scanning, move your mobile device closer to the OSS, adjust its angle, or use it without its case.

11. After NFC authentication completes and the file upload starts, you no longer need to keep the mobile device in close proximity to the OSS. The file upload happens over BLE, so staying within normal Bluetooth range is sufficient.

12. Wait for the firmware to be uploaded to the device.

13. When the app notifies you that the update is complete, the OSS device will reboot and the process will be finished.

For added confirmation, you can check the status LEDs on the OSS device. Both the green and red status LEDs will flash together before the device is rebooted.
